ESOL/Bilingual Programs → ESOL Testing and Accountability Center
The mission of the ESOL Testing and Accountability Center (ETAC) is to provide a high quality, accurate English language proficiency assessment of English Language Learners in a professional, respectful and welcoming environment in order to enable all students to demonstrate successful academic performance and to provide efficient, effective, high-quality support to students, schools, and staff that ensures accurate reporting of ESOL enrollment and services to satisfy local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
The ETAC staff administer the state-mandated English language proficiency assessment to students whose native language is not Standard American English and who are referred by Residency and International Admissions. This is done prior to enrollment in the student’s school. A student’s proficiency in English is assessed in four skill areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Testing may last from one-half to two hours depending on the student’s English proficiency and grade level. After testing, the student’s school is notified of the testing results.
The ETAC staff maintain an up-to-date database on testing results for individual students. They also process ESOL Student Records regarding proficiency testing and instructional placement for all students enrolled in the ESOL language instruction program.
The ETAC hours are 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Appointments for testing can be made by calling 240-740-4510.
