What is a Word Wall?
A Word Wall is a tool to help young readers learn to recognize, read and spell specific words. Words are listed alphabetically on a chart and displayed in the classroom for children to refer to while reading and writing. Words are introduced and added to the wall throughout the year. Word walls can be used for new readers and writers as well as older students to explore homonyms, for frequently misspelled words, or to cluster words related to a particular theme or unit.
