Welcome to Benjamin Banneker Middle School (BBMS) Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA)! We are excited to have you join the BBMS community! Our goal is to help make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. Becoming a paid PTSA member strengthens the PTSA's membership impact, creates connections with staff and other families, and most importantly, offers support for the children of BBMS! Committee Members Needed
Membership: The Membership Committee is responsible for coordinating all activities related to promoting, registering, and retaining PTSA memberships. Encourage parents and staff to join the PTSA by raising awareness of the benefits of PTSA membership. Track and keep accurate records of PTSA membership. Be present at various PTSA events to provide parents with information about PTSA membership. Advertise General Body meetings through newsletters, posters, and flyers. Coordinates 100% PTSA Membership drives and membership incentives. Submits nominations for PTSA membership awards.
Fundraising Committee: The Fundraising Committee is responsible for raising funds needed to sustain the annual operating budget. Manage all fundraising activities for the PTSA. Research and evaluate new fundraising opportunities. Maintain communication with local employers who provide matching funds donations. Manage fundraising event expenses within the allotted budget. Advertise fundraising events by creating flyers, posters, and announcements for inclusion in weekly school announcements. Identify and contact vendors as needed for fundraising events. Recruit and manage volunteers for set up, clean up, and staffing during fundraising events. Complete building use request forms at the beginning of the year to reserve school space for events. Send out donation acknowledgment letters to donors. Publish fundraising results to all stakeholders.
Staff Appreciation: The Staff Appreciation Committee is responsible for coordinating events, planning menu, theme, and decor. Seek donations from parents and the community. Coordinate volunteers to assist with both the Holiday Staff Lunch in the winter and the Teacher/Staff Appreciation lunch in the spring.
Communication: The Communications Committee is responsible for managing communication between the PTSA, parents, and staff, including all electronic archival and website maintenance, domain, and all email/mail groups. Responsible for PTSA's overall communication strategy for all events. Oversee website, flyer design, and social media outlets. Ensure occasional email blasts for important reminders and promotions are distributed. Submit content for community outreach. Closely monitor the PTSA calendar of events. Assist with evaluation of possible new PTSA-funded software purchases.
Grant Writing Committee: Responsible for finding creative sources of funding to obtain supplies, support programs, and staff needs by researching and identifying grant opportunities. Responsibilities include discussing funding needs with relevant parties, researching available grants, and facilitating the grant application process.
Nominating Committee: Comprised of three PTSA members elected by the Board of Directories. The committee shall elect its own chair. The committee identifies, recruits, and nominates qualified candidates for each elected PTSA position, by holding confidential meetings and reviewing nominations. In advance of May elections by the General Body meeting.
