College Application Timeline
Ninth Grade
- Study and work hard in your classes.
- Participate in school extracurricular activities.
- Take the practice PSAT.
- Remember the grades earned in the ninth grade are part of your official high school transcript.
- Work on earning your student service learning hours.
Tenth Grade
- Continue to do well in your classes.
- Continue your participation in extracurricular activities.
- Take the practice PSAT. Check with your counselor for more information.
- Meet with your counselor for your Naviance password.
- Visit your College and Career Center.
- Talk with your counselor about your grades.
- Find out what kinds of post-secondary schools offer the education you need to meet your career plans.
- Plan next year’s program to reflect your interests, school progress, and emerging career plans.
- Consider career and technology course offerings at the Thomas Edison High School of Technology.
- Continue earning student service learning hours, particularly through activities related to potential career plans.
Eleventh Grade
- Continue to do well in your classes.
- Continue your participation in extracurricular activities.
- Take the PSAT.
- Continue your use of Naviance to do college searches.
- Meet with college admissions representatives who visit your school.
- Register for ACT and/or SAT I/SAT subject tests.(Consider how you will prepare-prep class or books)
- Attend college fairs and school-sponsored programs.
- Develop your résumé/personal references.
- Monitor and continue earning student service learning hours.
- Speak with teacher(s) about a possible letter of recommendation.
- Complete your self-reflection questions on Naviance.
Twelfth Grade
- Continue to do well in your classes.
- Schedule a college meeting with your counselor.
- Visit colleges and/or trade and technical schools.
- Attend college visits from admissions representatives at B-CC.
- Register for ACT, SAT I, and SAT subject tests if needed.
- Complete college applications. Be aware of deadlines by both B-CC and your colleges.
- Speak with teacher(s) about a possible letter of recommendation. Give teachers and counselors sufficient time.
- Search for potential scholarship opportunities.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other financial aid forms, if required by the college, and file after January 1.
- Notify your counselor of your application status as you hear from the colleges.
- Request a midyear and final transcript to be sent to colleges.
