Teaching is a rewarding experience. I teach so I can learn about the world and all of those infinite possibilities that brand new minds bring to me each and every day. I graduated from Delaware State University receiving a BA in Special Ed. (K-12) and Elementary Education (Levels 1-6). Years later, I earned a MA in the area of Curriculum Design and Instruction, from National Louis University. I have over 20 years of teaching experience having taught at Briggs Chaney for the past 10 years. When I am not in school, I enjoy spending time with my family, coaching basketball and playing golf.

I grew up in Northern NJ with four brothers and extended family members as my neighbors. I completed my undergraduate Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary & Kindergarten Education with Pennsylvania State University and my Master’s degree in Special Education with Towson State University. I started my career teaching first grade, then second grade, in Baltimore City for four years before transferring to MCPS. I have spent my entire career of over 24 years in MCPS teaching at Briggs Chaney MS. I have had the opportunity to co-teach with many different talented teachers in all three grades and in all the major academic courses. I sponsor three different after school activities, Girls’ Softball Team, Chess & Board Games Club, and Tennis Club because I believe it’s important to give our young people a chance to have a variety of experiences and activities outside of academics in order help them grow as well rounded individuals.

Hello fellow BCMS Bears! This is my first year at Briggs Chaney Middle School, but my 27th year of teaching in Montgomery County Public Schools. I’ve taught middle school math for 10 years; from Math 6 to Algebra and everything in between. I’ve lived nearly my whole life in Montgomery County, attending Brookhaven Elementary, Belt Jr. High (now Loiderman Middle School), and Wheaton High School. I went to the University of Maryland for my undergrad studies, and then back again for a Master’s degree in Math Education. I also have a Master’s degree in Gifted Education from Johns Hopkins University. When I’m not at school you can find me working in my garden, reading a book at home, or enjoying time on the water. I am lucky enough to live in Edgewater (near Annapolis) and love to spend time on the South River and the Chesapeake Bay.

I started my teaching as a student teacher in the Pittsburgh Public School system while I attended the University of Pittsburgh. After a year of teaching 6th grade in the Cleveland City Schools, I came to MCPS. I spent 3 years at Westover ES, teaching 6th grade, a 5/6 combination, and 5th grade. The rest of my career has been at BCMS, where I helped open the building in 1991. I have taught a variety of math courses over the years at BCMS, ranging from 6th grade, to Algebra, to many variations of summer school. In addition to that I also coached the math team for many, many years. I did my master’s work at the University of Maryland. I am married to Kerstin and have two children, my son Jarek, and my daughter Alina.
