Weekly Update

Good evening, Farmland families,

As a reminder, this Friday, September 22, will be an Early Dismissal day. Dismissal on Friday will be at 1:20 p.m. If your child's departure plan is different on half days than normal days, please ensure your child and their classroom teacher know what plan is child's plan is.

Thank you to everyone who came out for Back to School Night. If you were unable to attend, your classroom teacher will be sending you the slides that cover the material and information presented that night. If you have questions, please contact your child's teacher.

During the Parent Teacher Association meeting, I shared information about The Pathway to College, Career, and Community Readiness. If you missed the information, click this link to access the MCPS website which has additional resources.

Absent, Tardy, or Leaving Early Update

Farmland must be notified in writing of any day your child will be absent, tardy, or leaving early.

When reporting the absence, be sure to notify both the classroom teacher and the attendance secretary, Ms. Auel at kari_r_auel@mcpsmd.org, be sure to Include the following information:

  • Your child's name;
  • Their homeroom teacher's name; and,
  • Reason for the absence.

If Ms. Auel does not receive an email from a parent, an automated call will be made at noon and the absence or tardiness will be considered unexcused.

When a student returns to school following an absence, an explanation from the parent/guardian is required. The explanation may be submitted via email or hard copy and is required within three days of the student's return to school.

By state law, when returning from a prolonged absence (five days or more), a physician's note is also required for your child to return to school. Again, this is state law; neither MCPS nor Farmland can or will alter or waive this requirement.

If your child is considered chronically absent, we also require families to have a physician's excuse.

Vacations are not excused absences.

If you are picking up your child early or are dropping your child off late, you must fill out the Early Pick-Up/Late Arrival form. Click here to access this form.

Donations for Harmony Hills

Did you know that Farmland has a sister school? Our sister school, Harmony Hills, is an elementary school in Silver Spring with approximately 900 students. Throughout the year, we partner with them on drives for clothing, winter gear, and other items. As it starts to get cooler, I'm sure many of us have discovered our kids' pants have become highwaters and shoes no longer fit. Our friends at Harmony Hills would love our gently used donations! We will be collecting fall clothing for ADULTS, CHILDREN, and BABIES - pants, shirts, hoodies, shoes, etc - starting NOW until Sunday, September 24. Donations can be left in the boxes outside of the Farmland main entrance.  Thank you!
