Why use unitedstreaming videos?
unitedstreaming provides educational videos for downloading and viewing in classrooms. You may use a searchable database to find videos related to topics of your choice. There are many reasons to use unitedstreaming videos:
- retain students interest
- can be downloaded to hard drives so they are available when you need them
- easy to share with colleagues
- address different learning styles
- brings lessons to life
You may view entire videos. Even better, unitedstreaming breaks videos into shorter clips. There are many reasons to use short clips:
- targets specific areas of learning
- holds students' attention
- faster for teachers to download
- requires less storage space
But most importantly, short clips support constructivist learning because they can generate discussion questions which can lead to activities which lead to other clips.
How do I access unitedstreaming?
MCPS has a subscription to unitedstreaming that provides access for all teachers in the county. Teachers should contact their school's media specialist to obtain a username and password.
Once you have a username and password, visit www.unitedstreaming.com.
Teachers outside Montgomery County can try a free 30 day trial.

Some suggestions when using videos:
- Use clips to introduce a unit
- Use clips to end a unit
- View videos with the sound off and provide your own commentary (Or, ask students to provide the words.)
- Start and stop the videos to engage students in discussions
- Use a powerpoint show to keep links to videos organized so you can navigate from one clip to the next easily
- Provide thinking questions for students to answer while they watch the clips
- Allow students to review clips as needed
- Use at computer stations and learning centers
