What is the Information Technology Foundation?

Student at computerInformation Technology Foundation (ITF), also known as The Montgomery County Students Information Technology Foundation, Inc., is a non-profit foundation established cooperatively by Montgomery County Public Schools and the business community in Montgomery County to promote and advance the interests of information technology education in grades K-12.  The ITF also oversees IT and Computer Science career pathways, including the establishment of a student-run computer sales business.

This unique method of preparing high school students for skilled positions in the IT field offers hands-on instruction to students interested in IT careers. Students are introduced to potential employers with available positions in technical service, customer service, sales and management.

On-the-Job Training

Students receive valuable on-the-job training that prepares them for higher educational opportunities or direct entry into the information technology job market.

Articulated Credit

The ITF program also offers students the opportunity to earn articulated college credits toward post-secondary education. Successful completion of the ITF programs (Academy of Information Technology, Cisco Networking Academy, Computer Science/Code.org or Network Operations) along with the applicable Advanced Placement (AP) credits and CompTIA certifications earn students college credit that will put them ahead of the competition!

Record of Success

  • Information Technology Foundation is celebrating its twelfth year helping students in Montgomery County Public Schools to achieve their professional goals. ITF students reconditioned and sold 300 computers last school year. Each year, ITF provides awards to the outstanding students participating in the program.
  • The Montgomery County Public Schools Division of Career and Technology Education presented ITF with the Business Partnership of the Year Award on June 30, 2005, ITF's first year of operation, in recognition of ITF’s exemplary contributions to public education in Montgomery County

"They successfully transferred all 9 credits to my (Montgomery College) transcript. Now, I am taking some advanced networking courses. Those 9 credits are really worth it since it saved me one semester at MC."

"Because of my Network Operations certifications, I've basically completed one semester of college while still in high school.  This will save me over $5000!  According to ASM, the testing center administering the CompTIA certifications, the average salary for someone with all my certifications is about $89,000!!"
Jeffrey Moberly

"My experiences in the NetOps program served as a technical computer skill base for me.  The skill base I gained was essential in bolstering my resume, and I believe without it opportunities would be a lot harder. . . Winning the IT Merit Award was very meaningful to me, as I have never won a monetary award, and I feel honored to have won it.”
