BACK TO THE BUILDING:
Here is a quick list of resources to get ready for school.
First Day Procedures
-
Fill Out the Special Name tag:
You can find a downloadable (PDF) version here. Please fill it out, cut it out, and either pin it to your child’s shirt or send it in their backpack. This helps us know exactly who everyone is and how they are getting home. -
Let Them Ride the Bus:
If your child will be riding a bus to school, we ask that you please let them ride the bus on the very first day. You may follow in your car if you’d like! The best way for us to know which bus to put your child on in the afternoon is by taking note of which bus they came on in the morning. It also helps them understand where to get off the bus in the afternoon. Not sure which bus your child should be on or when the bus will pick them up/drop them off? The bus route schedule for the 2018-2019 can be found in our Summer Information Packet . You can also find routes and schedules at the County's list of bus routes by school. -
Normal Arrival Procedures:
We will have extra staff members out front with class lists and they will help students find their classrooms on the first day. Aside from this extra guidance and support, our arrival procedure on the first day will be the same as normal. -
Car Rider Procedures:
If you drive your child to school, please make sure that you enter the parking lot and proceed through the student drop-off loop. A staff member will usually be there to greet students as they get out of their car and ensure that they get safely on their way, while you proceed through the loop and exit the parking lot. Please do not drop your children off on Sisson Street, as we cannot ensure their safety. If you need to accompany your child into the building, we ask that you park in our parking lot in one of the marked spaces or on the street, and hold your child’s hand as you walk him/her to the sidewalk. Please do not park in the drop-off loop, as this creates delays, congestion, and dangerous traffic patterns. Likewise, in the afternoon, we ask that you use the drop-off loop to pick up your children if you are remaining with your car. If you want to come into the building, please park your car in one of the marked spaces or on the street – please do not leave your car parked in the drop-off loop and come in the building.
School Hours

Breakfast and Lunch
New Breakfast Program: We are very excited about the new breakfast program this school year. Here are the important things to know about the program:
- It's free for ALL students
- Breakfast is served in the classrooms, not the cafeteria
- Students need to be at the school by 9:10am
Our cafeteria lunch each day. The prices for meals are:
LUNCH: $2.55; REDUCED - $0.40
Families who meet certain federal income standards are eligible for free or reduced price meal benefits. The Applications for the Federal Free and Reduced Meals Program will be sent home to all families the first week of school. If your child was part of this program last year, he or she can continue during the first weeks of school. However, you must re-apply each year. There is more information in our Summer Information Packet . If you have questions, please call the school office.
We'd Love To Have You Visit
You are welcome to visit the school at any time. Montgomery County School Policy states that all persons entering a school building must go to the school office, sign in, and wear a visitor badge. Please help to ensure our children’s safety by checking in with the office when you enter and leave.
If you are new to Kemp Mill, we welcome you and your family to our community; if you are returning, we look forward to working with you and your child again this year. Please feel free to call the school office (301-649-8046) with any questions or concerns you might have.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, or have already done some of the tasks above, but have not completed the volunteer application attached or attended the volunteer orientation, please contact our school at 301-649-8046.
Parent Resources. The next time you are at Kemp Mill, please stop by to check out all of the great parent resource materials available for you. There is information about afterschool programs, English classes, parenting books and DVDs, bilingual books and DVDs, as well as books and DVDs about how to help your child succeed in school.
