Security Department Overview
At Northwood we believe that feeling safe and secure at school is paramount to getting an education. Combined the Northwood security team has many years of experience in policing and corrections.
Student IDs
Student IDs must be worn while on school grounds. Each student is issued an ID when he/she has his/her picture taken at the beginning of the school year. Since seniors have their pictures taken during the summer, they will be issued their IDs by security when IDs are received from the portrait studio within the first couple weeks of school.
Lockers
Lockers will be issued during the first couple weeks of school. If your student chooses to obtain a locker, there will be a $5 obligation put on his or her account for the lock. The student will not have to pay the $5 as long as the lock is returned to security at the end of the school year.
Parking Permits
Parking permits may be purchased within the first couple weeks of each semester. A student parking permit costs $37.50 per semester.
All students in need of a parking permit should have their parents fill out Form 215-6 and return it to the Finance Office ASAP along with the $37.50 fee. Students and parents should both sign the Parking Request Form. Parking fees can also be paid online at the following link: 2017 - 2018 Parking Permit
Electronic Devices
Electronic devices such as cell phones and iPods or MP3 players are not allowed to be used in school during class. Our preference is that students leave these items at home. When these items are brought to school they are not only a distraction, but oftentimes they can be lost, stolen, or misplaced.
Bullying
Bullying, cyberbullying, and harassment continue to be issues all schools face. Please encourage your student to speak with a staff member if this is happening to him or her. Visit the MCPS Preventing Bullying website for more information about support and resources offered by the county.
- Report Bullying with the Bullying Incidence Form.
School Resource Officer
Northwood's School Resource Officer (SRO) is Officer Brett Mavritte. Officer Mavritte was born in Washington D.C and has lived throughout the United States. He is a graduate of Largo High School, and he completed his BA in Psychology from Bowie State College. He is one of three students who graduated from Bowie who became the first ROTC cadets to be commissioned as officers in the military. Officer Mavritte served 10 years as a U.S. Army Officer in the Air Defense Artillery Branch and earned a MA degree from Webster University while on active duty. Officer Mavritte has been with the Montgomery County Police Department for 14 years, 12 of those in various MCPS schools.
