Absence Note - this is an easy to fill-in Google Document that can be submited to the Attendance Office to report a student's absence. Please make sure to fill out all of the fields - includes the date, student's full name, student's ID number, student's grade, day and date of absence, reason for absence, parent's full name, and parent's phone number.
Connect-Ed Automated Calls
The Attendance Secretary does NOT take the attendance, that is the duty of the teacher in the classroom. If you are unaware of your student's absence, please check the parent/student portal the following morning to see what teacher marked your student absent. It is between the student and the teacher to see why they are marked absent for that particular class.
Excused Absences
Students are to submit a note to the attendance office within three days following the absence (please include a phone number on the note). The attendance secretary will process the note.
- Any absence that is more than 3 consecutive school days requires a doctor's note in order for the absence to be excused. If the 3+ day absence is for another approved reason, additional documentation may be required.
- If the absence is for a court related reason, a document from the court is required for the absence to be excused.
Excused Tardies
Upon entering school, students are to sign in at the attendance office window and submit a handwritten note that includes the date, student's name, student's ID number, student's grade, day and date of absence, reason for absence, parent's full name, and parent's phone number and the attendance secretary will give the student a pass to class. The attendance secretary will process the note. If students are more than twenty minutes late, the teacher will mark the student as absent for that class period.
Unexcused Tardies
During the first twenty minutes of first period, students are to report directly to class without stopping by the attendance office for a pass. Students that arrive to school after the first twenty minutes must sign in with attendance and they will be given an unexcused tardy pass. The teachers will follow the discipline procedures as indicated in the Student Handbook. Three unexcused tardies in a class equals one unexcused absence for that class.
Early Departures
Students can drop off their permission note starting at 7:20 AM at the attendance office window. The attendance secretary will prepare the early departure notes.
Students MUST also sign out before leaving the building or they will be unexcused, even though they were given a pass. Students returning the same day after an early dismissal must sign back in at the attendance office upon returning to school.
Extended Absences Needing Prior Approval
Students requesting an extended absence must bring their note to an administrator for prior approval. If approval is granted, the note will be copied to teachers and the attendance office will retain the original copy for the student's file.
The following SEVEN pieces of information must be listed on all student tardy and absence notes:
- Student's Full Legal Name
- ID Number
- Grade
- Date(s) of Absence
- Reason for Absence
- Parent/Guardian's Work and Home Telephone Number
- Parent/Guardian's Signature, or Student's Signature if Age of Majority is on file.
