The following online resources are available for students to use both at home and at school. Students can pick up a copy of the logins/passwords from the media center or you can download a copy of them here. You must be logged onto your MCPS google account to view the password spreadsheet.
Capstone E-Books - 92 fiction and non-fiction books that can be read from any computer or mobile device with internet access.
Culturegrams - Up-to-date information on 182 countries and cultures. Twenty-five categories are tracked including history, land and climate, religion, personal appearance, gestures, language, government, family, dating and marriage, etc.
Discovery Streaming - Watch thousands of videos and video clips from Discovery Education. Students can watch videos for all of their school subjects from history and science to health and music.
Encyclopaedia Britannica - Products include: Online School Edition (includes 3 encyclopedias to meet needs of all students), Online Academic Edition, Annals of American History, Global Reference Center, 21st Century Explorer, Spanish Reference Center: Gran Encyclopedia Planeta y Enciclopedia Juvenil, Webster's Third New International Dictionary Unabridged and World Data Analyst
FactCite - Includes articles of people, places and events that shape our society and world around us. Included in FactCite are the following databases: American History, Biographies for Beginners, Countries and Cultures, Defining Moments in US History, Mythology, Science, Shapers of Society, Sports Champions, and World Biography.
Gale Kids InfoBits - Kids Infobits includes articles, images and videos about popular subjects including Animals, Arts, Geography, Health, Literature, People, Social Studies, Technology, and more.
Gale General OneFile - General OneFile includes articles from magazines, books, newspapers, and academic journals on over 500 topics.
Gale in Context: Middle School - Gale In Context Middle School includes reference information in videos, newspapers, magazines, primary sources, and much more. Categories cover a range of the most-studied topics including cultures, government, people, U.S. and world history, literature, and more.
Gale Virtual Reference Library- Log on to GVRL to search 27 reference books covering the following topics: Weather and Climate, Geology, Mythology, Civil War and Ancient Civilizations
Image Quest - Access two million rights-cleared images from over 50 of the best collections in the world. Students will turn to the site as they work on homework assignments and school or course projects. Free of advertising and from trustworthy sources, Image Quest provides safe and fast access to high quality images on all topics and for all ages.
NoodleTools Comprises an online bibliography (works cited), composer, and note-taking tool. The student inputs the information necessary and prints out the bibliography. Students also can take notes online using this service.
PK Science - Includes access to 2 databases: Physical Science, and Earth & Space Science.
Science Flix - Includes videos, articles, images, and eBooks on a variety of science topics.
SIRS Discoverer The database includes carefully selected full-text articles and images international newspapers, magazines, government documents, and websites for elementary and middle school students especially although serves a purpose at all levels.
SIRS Issues Researcher - SIRS Issue Researcher helps middle and high school students with research on current issues.
Teachingbooks.net A unique service that provides up-close and personal interviews (multimedia abounds!) with some of the most loved and respected children and young adult authors. Includes lesson plans and other resources for use by language arts teachers and for students. Covers many of our core and anchor text authors.
