Vision

Our School Library Media Program is designed to empower all members of the school community with information literacy skills.  As a result of innovations in technology, this program must be adaptable and ever-evolving. It is the responsibility of the Library Media Specialist to assist students and staff as they learn to effectively access, evaluate, and organize information in a variety of formats, both traditional and technological.

To encourage leisure reading, the School Library Media Program strives to provide reading materials that reflect diverse interests and varying reading levels. By promoting reading for pleasure, the School Library Media Program simultaneously supports basic literacy, information fluency, and a respect for learning.

Mission

The mission of the RICA Media Center is to create an environment in which all of our students are encouraged to become life-long learners and capable users of technology, information, and ideas. Our aim is to help students become young adults who can access, evaluate, and interpret information by providing a well-balanced and rich collection of both print materials and electronic databases. Our Media Center fosters an environment that embraces reading for pleasure as well as knowledge.

Expected Student Behavior

  • Be curious!

  • No food or beverages other than water are to be brought into the Media Center.

  • Return all chairs and materials to their original places.

  • Maintain a level of conversation which allows everyone to read, research, and study without distraction.

  • Follow MCPS's technology policy when using devices.

We look forward to supporting you with the RICA Media Program!
