World Languages
Resource Teacher: Elyse Seitz
Modern society is becoming increasingly interdependence as improved forms of communication and transportation bring people closer together. Consequently, there is a growing national need for effective communication in other languages.
The department currently offers six levels of French and Spanish and three levels of American Sign Language. The Spanish for Spanish Speakers course is designed for native and heritage speakers of Spanish who wish to improve their speaking, reading, and writing skills. In all of the World Language classes we emphasize the development of the following language skills: listening – speaking – reading – and writing.
Concurrent with the acquisition of these language skills, the student acquires knowledge and understanding of other cultures. Once a world language has been elected, it should be pursued without interruption and in a sufficiently long sequence to motivate students to continue working towards mastery.
