PBIS - Positive Behavioral Intervention System
PBIS Mission
The PBIS mission is to develop and cultivate a school community of mutual respect and responsibility by building positive relationships.
Rewards & Incentives
At SSI students will have the opportunity to be recognized, acknowledged and rewarded for their display of positive social skills reflective of the three R’s (Respect, Responsibility and Relationship building).
Students who demonstrate the three R's can earn PBIS coupons. The coupons are a way for staff to reinforce positive behaviors and for students to get recognition. Students can be on the lookout for special golden tickets that will be given out before breaks.
After receiving coupons, students have the chance to redeem them for small prizes, such as pens/pencils, headphones, candy and snacks in the school store. Students also have the option of redeeming PBIS jag bucks to participate in the monthly PBIS celebrations and incentives. Previous celebrations have included pizza parties, board game competitions, raffles for special prizes, and other incentives.
Character Education Lessons
SSI students participate in monthly character education lessons through their Homeroom/Advisory class. These lessons will help students to define & describe respect, responsibility and positive relationship building. We also focus on developing the traits of IB Learners, such as being principled, caring and open-minded.
PBIS and Parent Support/Involvement
Parent support and involvement in the SSI PBIS program is an essential partnership in meeting our goals of instilling and reinforcing the values of respect, responsibility, and positive relationship building. Some suggestions in how you can help instill and reinforce the three R’s are:
Respect
- Following school policies regarding attendance and student conduct.
- Greetings (hello, good-bye), please, thank you, you're welcome.
Responsibility
- Check student planners daily and check ParentVUE/StudentVUE frequently.
- Be on-time for school and class.
- Assign chores and duties at home.
- Allotted daily reading and study time.
Positive Relationship Building
- Being involved in after-school activities and community service projects
- Attending school events such as Back-to-School Night, Parent Conferences, International Night, Fall & Spring Showcases, music and choral concerts, etc.
