TPMS Magnet Program

March 26 2023 Update

Hello Magnet Families!  It's our last week before Spring Break and we are headed into the final stretch of the 22-23 school year.  The Third Marking period ends next Thursday which means that when we return from Spring Break, we are in the final quarter of the year.  It's no myth that our 6th graders presented their projects on myths on Friday the 25th (see pictures above).  Our 7th graders will visit Edison High School for the Finance Park trip after Spring Break and May is testing season.  Lots happening at TPMS, check it all out in the table below!

WE SHINE

In years past, STEAM night was an incredible event where students presented their science projects while outside scientists and artists came to TPMS to showcase their research and talents.

This year, we are trying a new slant on that by having TAKOMA WE SHINE on Thursday, June 8th.  Like Steam night, students will be able to create and display original research projects, but so can afterschool groups, outside presenters, and other TPMS departments.

Our vision is to show how we can shine in everything from math, science, literature, language, even athletics.

We are looking for parents to join our Rigor committee to help plan this event, contact outside presenters, mentor students through original research, and look for ways to improve rigor in every class.

MCPS Youth Climate Summit

  • Montgomery County Public Schools and students from across the District are hosting its annual Youth Climate Summit on Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 8:30 am to 3:35 pm at Tilden Middle School. Details about the event, including student and mentor interest forms, are available on the event website.

  • The goal is for middle and high school students to learn about climate change on a personal level through plenary speakers and workshops that demonstrate actionable ways to engage in the climate movement. The Summit concludes with participants being mentored through the process of writing a climate action plan, a project outline they can implement in their school or community.

  • Centralized transportation will be available, and lunch will be provided. Students will earn SSL hours for their participation. Transportation hubs will be finalized prior to the event based on enrollment.
