History of Julius West Middle School
In 1960, the Montgomery County Board of Education decided that another secondary school was needed to serve the rapidly expanding west end of the city of Rockville. A construction contract was awarded totaling almost $2 million to build the new West Rockville Junior High and the new school opened in 1961. The middle school expanded rapidly and an addition to the building was required in 1964.
