Shannon H. McKenzie is a child development teacher at Clarksburg High School and has been an educator for seven years.

 As the MCPS Teacher of the Year, Mrs. McKenzie will now be the MCPS nominee for the 2023-2024 Maryland State Teacher of Year award.

Award Overview

 

The Montgomery County Teacher of the Year Award honors a full-time Pre-kindergarten/Head Start through Grade 12 teacher who has a demonstrated record of high academic expectations for all students, engaging students of all backgrounds and abilities, contributing to a positive school culture, and connecting with the school community. The Montgomery County Teacher of the Year goes on to represent Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) as the MCPS nominee for the Maryland State Teacher of the Year award.

Nominations for the Montgomery County Public Schools Teacher of the Year are now closed. Please visit us again in October 2023.

Nomination Process 

  • Requirements - Nominations must be supported by at least one of the following: a student; a staff member, a parent/guardian, or community member. A minimum of six years’ experience as an MCPS teacher is also required.
  • Nomination Packet
  • Re-Submitting Previous Nominations - Nominations made in previous years may be resubmitted. Questions should be addressed to the Office of Human Resources and Development (OHRD), at 240-740-7012.
  • Winner Selection and Announcement - A panel appointed by the chief of Human Resources and Development will select the recipient.

 

When & Where to Submit

  • Nomination Deadline – Nomination materials must be received by December 16, 2022. Nominations made in previous years may be resubmitted as long as the current award format is followed.
