The Department of Special Education Services (DSES) views parents/guardians as valued partners along with students and school staff members in planning the student's services through the Individualized Education Program decision-making process. DSES offers guidance for parents/guardians to ensure that they are aware of the processes and procedures regarding special education eligibility and services. Additionally, DSES staff members serve to foster positive parent-school partnerships for increased educational opportunities and success for all students. Special education cluster supervisors and program supervisors serve as contacts for parents/guardians, along with school personnel. The Child Find unit provides free developmental screenings for children from three years of age until kindergarten. It is also the single point of entry for families moving into Montgomery County whose preschool-age child has been previously identified with a disability.
