Middle School Magnet Consortium (MSMC)

Choose Success! The Middle School Magnet Consortium (MSMC) is made up of three schools – Argyle, Loiederman, and Parkland middle schools – each of which offers an innovative and challenging magnet curriculum. Argyle focuses on digital design and development; Loiederman offers a creative and performing arts focus; and Parkland provides students the opportunity to explore math and science through aerospace technology and robotic engineering.
Admission is based upon a Choice process open to all Montgomery County students who are currently in Grade 5.

  • September 28, 2023 - MSMC Parent Presentation

  • October 11, 2023- Open House at Argyle Middle School 6 pm
  • October 18, 2023- Open House at Parkland Middle School 6 pm
  • October 25, 2023- Open House at A Mario Loiederman Middle School 6 pm
  • November 3, 2023- MSMC Choice Form Deadline 
  • Mid January  2024- Notification of Round 1 results
  • February 9, 2024- MSMC Round 2 Choice Form Deadline
  • Mid March  2024- Notification of Round 2 results

  • In Consortium students who live in area for Brookhaven, Georgian Forest, Harmony Hills, Sargent Shriver, Strathmore, Viers Mill, Weller Road, and Wheaton Woods should use this link to complete their MSMC Choice Form https://bit.ly/inMSMC (this case sensitive link will open in mid-October)
  • Out of Consortium students should use this link to complete their MSMC Choice Form : http://bit.ly/choiceMSMC  (this case sensitive link will open in early October)
    • Students MUST be logged into their MCPS Google Account for the MSMC choice link (aboveto open.

For additional information about the Choice process and/or the MSMC, please review the MSMC Program Booklet, contact your child's school counselor, or call the Division of Consortia Choice and Application Program Services (DCCAPS) at 240-740-2540.  

The online process for enrollment starts at the link below.  That is the first step in the process or registering and enrolling your student into MCPS. Once complete, you will be directed to our team to complete the Choice process and be assigned a school.

Transportation Notes    

Transportation for out-of-Consortium is available from central stops.  It is the responsibility of the families to transport students to and from the central stops. 

Transportation for in-Consortium students is provided to those who live outside the walking distance determined by MCPS transportation.

Change of Choice

Students in Grade 6 who would like to request a different MSMC middle school for the 2023-2024 school year may submit a Change of Choice request form using the link: https://bit.ly/MCPSchangeMSMC

Change of Choice requests are due by February 10, 2023.  Notifications will be mailed home in mid-March 2023. 

Appeal Information

An appeal process is in place for those who may have a unique and verifiable hardship or unforeseen circumstances that could warrant override the school assignment process.  To appeal, you must submit a letter explaining the reason for the request to the director of DCCAPS. Please include your students name, MCPS ID number, parent/guardian signature, and phone number.  The appeals process is now closed.  The appeals process opens in March of each school year.

Transportation Note

Argyle

Students who choose Argyle will specialize in advanced mathematics, advanced computer science, digital design, and gaming.

Loiederman

Students who choose Loiederman will specialize in performing arts, communication, and humanities.

Parkland

Students who choose Parkland will specialize in rigorous mathematics and science focused on the problem-solving requirements of aerospace and robotic engineering.
