Administration Team
Carolynn, Walsleben, Principal
As principal, I continue to be deeply humbled and honored to be entrusted with the privilege to serve the students, staff, parents and community of Candlewood. Together, we have continued the tradition or excellence and being a close community here at Candlewood Elementary School.
Prior to being appointed principal, I served as acting principal at Carl Sandburg Learning Center, principal intern at Germantown Elementary, assistant principal at Greenwood Elementary, and taught first and fifth grade respectively for 17 years within MCPS. As principal, I put forth the time and energy to ensure success for all students, and to work collaboratively to embrace an environment in which everyone thrives.
Personally, my husband Kraig and I have two wonderful adult children Connor and Kersten, who grew up in Montgomery County and graduated from MCPS schools. We are a close family and enjoy spending time together as well as supporting each other. A strong supporting family is important to me and this applies not only to my family at home, but to my school family. As an educator, I have always fostered an environment where we enjoy spending time together and supporting each other through a collaborative process. My goal as principal of Candlewood continues to be to ensure that each and every student, parent, staff and community member feels and knows that they are an important part of the Candlewood community.
As the principal of Candlewood Elementary School, I continue to be focused on building relationships, fostering a culture of respect, physical and social emotional safety, and academic success. This work continues to require open communication, collaboration, and trust. By focusing on these values and skills we will continue to elevate our partnership in creating the best learning environment for all our students.
Together…we are Candlewood strong!
Jaclynn Fowle, Assistant Principal
I am so honored to be able to serve the students, staff and families of the Candlewood community as assistant principal. As a school community we are dedicated to both the academic and social emotional growth of all of our students.
I was born and raised in Montgomery County. My mother was an MCPS teacher and administrator for 32 years which inspired me to pursue my interest in elementary education. I graduated from Penn State University (We are…!) with a degree in Elementary Education. As a graduate of Magruder High School, I knew I wanted to return to MCPS to start my career. This is my fourteenth year in education and during those years I have had the opportunity to serve in the role of 3rd and 5th grade teacher and assistant principal. Children are the heart of our work and I believe that it is our collective responsibility to provide them with an caring environment where they can do their best as learners.
I live in Derwood with my husband, Ray, our nine-year daughter, Raegan and our five-year-old daughter, Cadence. When not at school, I enjoy spending time with family and friends and our rescue dog, Suzie. You may even find me during the fall at a Magruder football game cheering on my husband, the Magruder football head coach.
Please know my door is always open and value your dialogue. I look forward to getting to know you and your family even better this year.
