History
Monocacy Elementary opened in the school year of 1961-1962 and is located in the agricultural reserve. There were approximately 236 students enrolled in Kindergarten through Sixth grade. Our current Kindergarten through Fifth-grade enrollment is 174.
There was a two-year renovation from 1988 – 1989. The school saw many new changes and additions as all the classrooms were remodeled and four new classrooms were added. In addition, a brand new full-size gymnasium was added at the back and the library-media center was enlarged. The building is built in the shape of a “U” which is home to our beautiful courtyard with a Butterfly Garden in the middle. In the summer of 2009, our roof was renovated. This summer our parking lot was resurfaced and we have a new entrance.
Monocacy Elementary celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2011-2012.
