Principal - Ms. Heidi Slatcoff
Ms. Slatcoff is beginning her 21st year in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). A Pennsylvania native, Ms. Slatcoff migrated to MCPS where she began her teaching career. Her first teaching assignment was at Churchill High School where she taught special education. There she worked with students who had learning disabilities as well as coached girls' and boys' volleyball. After teaching, she started her journey as an administrator within the county. Ms. Slatcoff was an assistant school administrator at Churchill High School for three years and then became an assistant principal at Robert Frost Middle School for three years, and at Forest Oak Middle School for three years. Ms. Slatcoff enters her 6 year at Earle B. Wood Middle School and continues to be excited to be a part of such a special community. Slatcoff believes in the importance of maintaining high expectations for all students and staff along with developing meaningful relationships. She has been committed to maintaining the amazing traditions Wood has established as well create new ones in order to continue to strive for excellence.
When Ms. Slatcoff is not at school, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, listening to music, attending sporting events, and going to the beach.
Assistant Principal - Ms. Sheree Coleman
Sheree Coleman is in her second year as an assistant principal at Earle B. Wood Middle School, where she currently serves as the seventh-grade administrator. Prior to Earle B. Wood, Mrs. Coleman began her 20-year career with Montgomery County Public Schools as an English teacher and an assistant principal at Col. Zadok Magruder High School. Mrs. Coleman is a MCPS graduate who attended Westover Elementary School, White Oak Middle School, and Springbrook High School. She earned a BA in Journalism from Loyola University Maryland, a MAT - Secondary English from The Johns Hopkins University, and a certificate in Educational Leadership from Hood College. Mrs. Coleman loves spending time with her husband, son, and daughter, who are the funniest people she knows. When she is not at Wood, she is attending her children's activities or re-organizing closets for fun.
Assistant Principal - Dr. Augustine Kang
Dr. Kang is excited to begin his third year with Wood Middle School as an administrator. Dr. Kang is a product of Montgomery County Public Schools and graduated from Winston Churchill High School. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biology and Masters degree in Education at the second oldest college in the nation, The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia (trivia question- do you know which college was the first to be established?). He began his career as a middle school science teacher at Shady Grove Middle School and then served as content specialist at Montgomery Village Middle School. He then took time to pursue a Ph.D. is Education Policy, Planning, and Leadership, once again from The College of William & Mary. Upon returning, he served as a content specialist at Gaithersburg Middle School before beginning his administrative career at Silver Spring International Middle School. Dr. Kang is a firm believer in the idea that effective effort leads to success and that every student can achieve their own successes with support and guidance. He also values communication and relationships, and wants all students and community members to know that they can reach out if they have questions or are in need. When Dr. Kang is not at school, he enjoys spending time with his family, staying active, listening to country music, and eating all sorts of different foods!
Assistant Principal - Mrs. Jenel Laney
It is with great enthusiasm that Mrs. Laney is joining the Wood Mustang administration team for the upcoming 22-23 school year as an assistant principal. She will be beginning her 11th year in MCPS and has been an educator since 2004. During this time, she have served as a Special Education teacher, Math Resource Teacher, and Staff Development Teacher.
Mrs. Laney was born in Carlisle, PA and came to the DMV Metropolitan area in 2005 by way of my husband’s career. She has three children Jaylon, Saniah, and Jacob, who she adores, and they keep her very active. In her personal time Mrs. Laney enjoys listening to music and spending time with family and friends.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Laney has always strived to provide an educational experience that is fun and challenging. She firmly believes that learning should never stop and is the key to true success. As the eighth grade Assistant Principal, she brings her passion for building relationships and holding high expectations. Mrs. Laney has spent most of her career helping staff build relationships with students. George Washington Carver stated, "Education is understanding relationships." They require empathy, honesty, and trust. Mrs. Laney is committed to honoring these values each and every day in order to build strong, lasting relationships with the staff, students, and community of Earle B. Wood Middle School. She looks forward to continuing to build upon the successes at Wood Middle School while working to explore new opportunities.
